The advantages of the TUNNEL design are:
- 360 degree full body tanning coverage
- Cross Exposure from the dual panels, with tanning rays focused on the tanner
- Tanning light is directed at the sides of the body, which are hard to tan in other beds
- High tunnel dome keeps the tanner from feeling claustrophobic
- Opening at the top of the dome allows excess heat to rise out, for cooler tanning

The GenX 42-8 uses Sontegra's hallmark Tanning Tunnel design. There are two panels of lamps, angled in such a way that light from each panel crosses in the center of the tanner's body.
